Are you #trending?

Status is an unattainable goal. It is led by fear and self doubt. To semi-quote Audrey Hepburn; The beauty of a person is not in the clothes they wear, the figure that they carry, or the way they comb their hair. The beauty of someone is seen in their eyes, because that is the doorway to their heart, the place where love resides.

Do you follow the latest fashions? Keep up with the current music scene? Movies? Do you like what you like because you yourself chose to like it or because John or Jane has it/wears it?

We live in a society where fashions and trends last about as long as a marriage between Dennis Rodman and Carmen Electra. Is there a reason you wait in a twenty car line at Starbucks? Buy new clothes every three months? There are clothes in our closets that I’m sure we have not worn in close to six months. Suddenly, that outfit that looked so cool in the store just doesn’t cut it.

Do the Jones’ really exist or is it that we are just simply after an illusion that will never be caught. I have a hard time believing that once you’ve hit the elusive Jones’ status you will be satisfied with what you have. Trends and fashions are constantly changing. If they weren’t, what good would an entrepreneur be? Walt Disney didn’t just build the Magic Kingdom with the hopes it would stay the same as it had the very first day. You wouldn’t make multiple vacation trips there if that were the case. He planned ahead and bet on the trends.

No matter how hard we try not to be trendy, we nonetheless fall victim to it in some way, shape, or form; whether it be buying the latest clothing, waiting in line at Starbucks, eating at a hip restaurant, vacationing at a hotspot, or using the newest technology. Next time you’re standing in line for something, take a minute to think about why you want to make that purchase.
